Questions, answered
Who is Gigtill for?
Any business that gets paid: salons, contractors, food trucks, coaches, tutors, photographers, repair shops, consultants, makers and more. If you sell a service, a product or a visit, it works for you.
Is my type of business allowed?
Most businesses are welcome. Payments run on Stripe, so Stripe’s restricted and prohibited businesses list still applies.
How fast can I start taking payments?
Most people finish in 10–15 minutes: one minute with Gigtill, then Stripe’s verification. Stripe sometimes asks for more documents, which can take longer.
What will Stripe ask me for?
Your legal name, date of birth, address, phone, the last 4 digits of your SSN (or your EIN if you have a business), and a bank account or debit card for payouts. Stripe collects this on its own secure pages; Gigtill never sees it.
Where does my money go?
Straight to your own Stripe account, then to your bank on Stripe’s payout schedule. Gigtill never holds your funds.
What does Free really cost?
$0 a month plus 2% of each payment, never more than $5 per payment: $1.50 on a $75 payment, $5 on a $640 one. Stripe’s processing (2.9% + 30¢) is separate and the same on both plans.
When should I switch to Pro?
Around $1,450 a month in sales ($1,200 if you pay yearly). Your dashboard compares what you actually paid on Free with Pro’s flat price.
I already have a website or a Stripe account. Can I use them?
Yes. Paste the “Book & pay” button into your site, or link your existing Stripe account. See Already have a store?
Does Gigtill take a fee on tips?
No. On Free, the 2% (max $5) is on the price of what you sold, never on the tip. Example: $75 + $15 tip = $90 charged; Gigtill fee $1.50, not $1.80. Stripe’s processing applies to the whole $90.
How do deposits work?
Set a deposit (an amount or a percent) on an item or a payment link. Your customer accepts your cancellation policy and pays the deposit now; you send the balance link when the job is done. On Free the Gigtill fee for the whole booking never goes over $5: a $300 job with a $75 deposit pays $1.50 + $3.50.
Can I bill customers every week or month?
Yes. Create a plan (every 1–52 weeks or 1–12 months, optional setup fee and start date) and share its sign-up link. Stripe charges the card automatically, retries failed payments, and you can pause or cancel from your dashboard. On Free each charge pays 2%, capped at $5.
Can I take payments in person?
Coming soon. Stripe’s in-person rate is 2.7% + 5¢ per card (Tap to Pay on a phone adds 10¢), with no monthly fee; readers start at $59. Gigtill’s fee is the same as online. It isn’t live yet, so please don’t buy a reader for Gigtill until we announce it.
Can I charge clients a card fee?
Not by default. Card surcharge rules vary by state and card type. We recommend building fees into your prices.
Can I leave?
Any time. There’s no contract, and your Stripe account, payment history and payouts stay with you.
